The valley basin is drained towards the south to the Oignin . To the west, the municipal soil extends to the ridge of the Châtelard ( 725  m ). Neighboring communities of Bellignat are Oyonnax in the northeast, Apremont in the southeast, Groissiat in the southwest and Géovreisset in the northwest.

history

The discovery of a bronze age tumulus suggests a very early settlement of the municipality of Bellignat. In the 12th century the village formed its own small lordship. The sovereignty of the area passed to the Counts of Savoy in 1402 . With the Treaty of Lyon , Bellignat came to France in 1601. From the second half of the 19th century, Bellignat, together with the other communities in the Oyonnax valley, experienced an economic boom through the introduction of industry (silk industry, comb manufacture and later plastics processing).

Attractions

The village church of Saint-Christophe originally dates from the 11th century, but was later changed several times; she has a Gothic choir.
