Abeona and Adeona

Abeona and Adeona were Romanspecial deities ” who, derived from the Latin verbs abire and adire , watched over the first coming and going, that is, the attempts at walking, small children to and from their mother.

The two figures of Roman mythology who belong to the deities of childhood were mentioned by Marcus Terentius Varro in the 14th book of his lost Antiquitates rerum divinarum . Varro probably drew his information from the indigitamenta - pontifical books , which also special deities often clearly defined functions, the so-called "sure gods" (dei certi) by Varro .
