Fareins is a French commune with 2,204 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Ain department in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Bourg-en-Bresse and the canton of Villars-les-Dombes (until 2015: canton of Saint-Trivier-sur-Moignans ). The inhabitants are called Farinois .
geography
Fareins is located about 29 kilometers north of Lyon in the Dombes on the Saône . Fareins is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Messimy-sur-Saône in the north, Chaleins in the east, Frans in the south and southeast, Beauregard in the south, Arnas in the west and Saint-Georges-de-Reneins in the north-west.
