history

The Tower of Journans ( Tour de Journans ) was a fiefdom that belonged to the village of Journans. It was given in 1460 by Ludwig I, duc de Savoie , to Pierre de Laye, the Seigneur of Messimy and Becerel, which is why the tower was renamed Tour de Becerel . From the 17th century until the French Revolution the fief belonged to the Charbonnier family.

In the Middle Ages Journans belonged to the Tossiat Seigneurie . In 1650 Journans was mentioned as Jornens , in 1670 as Journens . In the Ancien Régime , the village was part of the Bourg-en-Bresse Bailiwick . The parish church was consecrated to St. Valerianus († 178) and was mentioned for the first time in 1613.

In 1793 Journans received the status of a municipality in the course of the French Revolution and in 1801 the right to local self-government.
