Bouligneux is located in the middle of the lake landscape of the Dombes , about 27 kilometers southwest of the prefecture of Bourg-en-Bresse . Bouligneux is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Sandrans in the north, La Chapelle-du-Châtelard in the northeast, Villars-les-Dombes in the east and southeast, Lapeyrouse in the south, Sainte-Olive in the west and southwest and Saint-Trivier-sur-Moignans in the west and northwest.
