Miribel is a French municipality with 9963 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Ain in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . Administratively, it belongs to the Arrondissement of Bourg-en-Bresse . She is also a member of the Communauté de communes de Miribel et du Plateau . The inhabitants are called Miribelans .
geography
Miribel is located in the Côtière region south of the Dombes , about 14 kilometers northeast of Lyon . The place is located directly on the Canal de Miribel . Miribel is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Mionnay in the north, Tramoyes in the northeast, Saint-Maurice-de-Beynost in the east, Meyzieu in the southeast, Décines-Charpieu in the south, Vaulx-en-Velin in the southwest, Neyron in the west and Rillieux-la- Pape and Cailloux-sur-Fontaines to the north-west.
Transport links
The former Route nationale 83 (today: Départementstraße 483) and the Autoroute A42 run through the municipality .
The Miribel station is served by trains on the Lyon – Genève line, while the Les Échets station is on the Lyon-Saint-Clair – Bourg-en-Bresse line . A serious railway accident occurred here on September 10, 1921 : an express train's car derailed when it entered the station at excessive speed.
