It was created as Commune nouvelle with effect from January 1, 2018 through the amalgamation of the previous municipalities Bâgé-la-Ville and Dommartin , which have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Bâgé-la-Ville.

Bâgé-Dommartin is located about eight kilometers east-northeast of Mâcon in the heart of the Bresse . Bâgé-Dommartin is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Chevroux and Boissey in the north, Marsonnas , Saint-Sulpice and Saint-Didier-d'Aussiat in the east, Saint-Genis-sur-Menthon in the southeast, Saint-Cyr-sur-Menthon in the south, Saint-Jean-sur-Veyle in the south and south-west, Saint-André-de-Bâgé and Bâgé-le-Châtel in the south-west, Replonges in the west and south-west, Feillens in the west and Manziat in the north-west.
