Bâgé-la-Ville is a former French commune with 3,200 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes in the department of Ain . It was assigned to the canton of Replonges and the arrondissement of Bourg-en-Bresse . The inhabitants are called Bagésiens .
With effect from January 1, 2018, the formerly independent municipalities of Bâgé-la-Ville and Dommartin were merged to form the Commune nouvelle Bâgé-Dommartin and have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Bâgé-la-Ville.
geography
Bâgé-la-Ville is located in the Bresse countryside , around ten kilometers east of Mâcon . The small Loëze that flows into the Saône flows through the municipality . Bâgé-la-Ville is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Chevroux in the north, Dommartin in the northeast, Saint-Didier-d'Aussiat in the east, Saint-Genis-sur-Menthon in the southeast, Saint-Cyr-sur-Menthon in the south, Saint- André-de-Bâgé in the southwest, Replonges and Feillens in the west and Manziat in the northwest. In the southwest the municipality of Bâgé-le-Châtel is an island in the municipality.
The A40 autoroute runs through the village .
history
The name Bâgé came from a Gallo-Roman country house that belonged to a certain Balgiasius . There was a commander of the Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem in the community .
