Pastorate (Denmark)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pastorat ( Danish , German pastorate, parish ; also præstekald , German pastor's office) is the name of the geographical area for which a pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark ( Danish People's Church ) is responsible.

The pastorate can consist of one or more districts (Danish Sogn ). In the second case, the pastor's residential district is called the main district ( hovedsogn ), the others are referred to as secondary districts or branch communities ( annekssogn ).

When secular communal structures were formed in Denmark in 1803, the new rural communities were geographically congruent with the existing pastorates.
