Saint-Didier-sur-Chalaronne is located on the Chalaronne , a small tributary of the Saône . Saint-Didier-sur-Chalaronne is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Garnerans in the north, Illiat in the east, Saint-Étienne-sur-Chalaronne in the southeast, Mogneneins in the south, Dracé and Thoissey in the southwest, and Saint-Symphorien-d'Ancelles in the west as well La Chapelle-de-Guinchay in the northwest.
history
Around 538 the hermit Trivier already mentioned the village of Priscianum (Vicus) . This name lasted until the tenth century when it changed to Saint-Didier. Saint Desiderius von Vienne (French: Saint Didier ) stood in opposition to the Frankish queen Brunichild . She arranged for his banishment. After his further resistance, Brunichild had Desiderius imprisoned and stoned here.
In 1736 the county named Saint-Didier-de-Valin was established here.
