The village extends in the south-western part of the historical Bresse province . topography

The area of the 12.12 km 2 municipal area includes a section on the right bank of the Veyle and tapers to the west to the Saône , into which the Veyle flows. The Veyle flows here in a lowland deepened about 20 m into the Bresse plain, westward into the Saône plain. Its bends in the river are precisely traced by the municipal boundary of Crottet. In the west, a section of a short tributary of the Saône belongs to the municipality, which reaches up to about 200 m from the actual river bank. In the north-west of the municipality there are several ponds , which are drained from a canal on the northern municipal boundary to the Saône. The proportionate land cover of the municipal area is divided into meadows with 45%, other agricultural areas with 30% and forests with 8%. Urban development and recreational areas together make up 17%.

Community structure

In addition to the actual town center, Crottet also includes several hamlet settlements and farms, including:

  • Château de l'Aumusse ( 208  m ) with several surrounding farms in the northeast corner of the municipality
  • La Villeneuve ( 176  m ) and Bief Godard ( 185  m ) as a northern continuation of the old town center
  • Chavannes ( 174  m ) west of the village.

history

The history of Crottet goes back to the early High Middle Ages , when the place was first mentioned in the period from 892 to 927 as In Crotel, in pago Lugdunense, in agro Turniaco . Its spelling changed from In villa Croteldi (1018), Crotel (1229), Crotez (1250) and Croteil (1276) to Crottet (1636). The variant Crotez still occurs after 1636. The parish church of Saint-Paul , belonging to the Archdiocese of Lyon , has been documented since 1149. At that time the lands belonged to a family of the same name ( de Croteil ), in the Ancien Régime they belonged to the Marquisate in Bâgé . The current hamlet of Chavannes was also the seat of a small lordship with a permanent house , which was first mentioned in 1203 ( de Chavannis ) and at the time was a fiefdom depending on the lordship of Bâgé. As part of the Bresse, Crottet came to the Kingdom of France with the Treaty of Lyon in 1601.

After the population fluctuated between 626 in 1936 and 838 in 1856 in the 19th and first half of the 20th century, the population has increased since the mid-1970s and continued into the 21st century. The locals of Crottet are called Crottassis (es) in French .

Economy and Infrastructure

Crottet was a predominantly agricultural village well into the 20th century . In addition to a few farms specializing in cattle production , there are now various local small-scale businesses and some small businesses. In the meantime the village has also developed into a residential community. Many employees are commuters who work in roughly equal proportions in the Mâcon area and in the Bourg-en-Bresse area.

The village is located on the D933 , which connects the villages on the eastern bank of the Saône via several departments, but is no longer important as a regional thoroughfare today. The side streets branching off from it connect Crottet with other neighboring communities. In Crottet there is a motorway connection in the direction of Mâcon to the A406 (Mâcon ring motorway) and a junction to the A40 in Replonges. In addition, there is a train station on the Mâcon – Ambérieu-en-Bugey railway line on the southern edge of Crottet , which is named after the neighboring town of Pont-de-Veyle. This is where the TER Rhône-Alpes trains stop and the line from the LGV Sud-Est to the old line ends on the TGV Paris-Geneva route . The airport in the region is Lyon-St-Exupéry (80 km).

education

In Crottet there is a state école primaire (elementary school with an integrated preschool ).
