Birieux is a French municipality with 283 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Ain in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the canton of Villars-les-Dombes in the Bourg-en-Bresse arrondissement . The inhabitants are called Birotans .
geography
Birieux is located in the middle of the lake landscape of the Dombes , about 31 kilometers south-southwest of the prefecture of Bourg-en-Bresse . Birieux is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Villars-les-Dombes in the north, Versailleux in the north-east, Joyeux in the east, Le Montellier in the east and south-east, Montluel in the south, Saint-Marcel in the west and Lapeyrouse in the north-west.
