Polliat is a commune with 2,511 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Ain in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . Administratively it belongs to the Arrondissement of Bourg-en-Bresse and is part of the canton of Attignat (until 2015: canton of Viriat ). The inhabitants are called Polliatis .

Polliat is a few kilometers northwest of Bourg-en-Bresse . The Veyle River flows through the municipality . Polliat is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Martin-le-Châtel in the north and north-west, Attignat in the north and north-east, Viriat in the east and north-east, Saint-Denis-lès-Bourg in the south-east, Buellas in the south and south-east, Montcet in the south and Southwest, Vandeins in the southwest, Mézériat in the west, Confrançon in the west and northwest and Curtafond in the northwest.
The A40 autoroute runs through the municipality .
