geography
location
Niévroz is located at 185 m , about 44 kilometers south-southwest of the prefecture of Bourg-en-Bresse , 19 kilometers northeast of the city of Lyon and 56 kilometers south-southeast of the city of Mâcon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the valley of the Rhone on the southern edge of the department. Neighboring communities of Niévroz are La Boisse and Dagneux in the north, Balan in the east, Jons and Jonage in the south and Thil in the west.
topography
The area of the 10.46 km 2 municipality covers a section on the right bank of the Rhone in the south of the Côtière landscape and lies entirely in the flat alluvial plain between the river and the steep slope on the edge of the Dombes, which is typical for the Côtière . In the southeast corner of the municipality, the Rhone divides into the Canal de Miribel (northern arm) and the Canal de Jonage . The inflow into the Canal de Miribel is controlled by a weir. On the eastern edge of the municipality runs a loop of an oxbow lake of the Rhone, in whose former river bed water surfaces and forest strips now alternate. A total of 63% of the community area is used for agriculture . The forest share reaches 12% and the settlement area 9%.
Community structure
The actual center of Niévroz and the old hamlet of Bourbuel to the west of it form a common settlement area after the growth of the last decades. The districts of Le Ga and Le Petit Ga adjoin to the southwest. The Les Tuileries farm group is located a few kilometers away in the immediate vicinity of Thil. On the northern edge of the municipality there is a cross-municipal industrial area, the part of which facing Niévroz is called Parc d'activités Les Cèdres Bleus . A campsite extends along the Canal de Miribel.
history
In 1984, under the field name Les Cancottes in the northeast of the municipality, remains of a dwelling from the Iron Age were found, which, using the C14 method, dates to the period 2100 ± 140 BC. Was dated.
In the Middle Ages, Niévroz first appeared in 1247 under the name Nevro as the site of a parish. The spelling later changed via Nievro and Nièvre to Niévroz . The word "Nièvre" refers to river meadows. The lands in the village belonged to the lordship of Montluel.
Attractions
The village church under the patronage of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a single-nave church completed in 1895, the previous building of which fell victim to a fire.

After the population had decreased from just under 500 in the 19th century to a little over 300 in the first half of the 20th century, a strong population increase has been recorded since the mid-1970s. The local residents of Niévroz are called Nièvrant (e) s in French .
Economy and Infrastructure
Niévroz is still a predominantly agricultural village that focuses on the cultivation of oil and protein crops. In addition, there are now various local small businesses. In the meantime the village has also developed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work mainly in the greater Lyon area.
The village is off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Montluel to Jons. Another road connection is with Thil. The routes of the LGV Rhône-Alpes high-speed line and the A432 motorway cross the municipality to the west. The nearest major train stations are Lyon Part-Dieu or Lyon-Saint-Exupéry TGV and the nearest motorway connection to the A42 is around 3 km away. The airport in the region is Lyon-St-Exupéry (18 km).
