Baneins is a French municipality with 602 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Ain department in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Bourg-en-Bresse and the canton of Villars-les-Dombes (until 2015: canton of Saint-Trivier-sur-Moignans ). The inhabitants are called Baninois .

Baneins is about 40 kilometers north of Lyon in the Dombes on the Moignans river . Baneins is surrounded by the neighboring communities Dompierre-sur-Chalaronne in the north, L'Abergement-Clémenciat in the northeast, Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne in the east, Relevant in the southeast, Saint-Trivier-sur-Moignans in the south, Chaneins in the southwest, Valeins in the West and Saint-Étienne-sur-Chalaronne in the north-west.
