Messimy-sur-Saône is a French commune with 1,224 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Ain department in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the arrondissement of Bourg-en-Bresse and the canton of Villars-les-Dombes (until 2015: canton of Saint-Trivier-sur-Moignans ). The inhabitants are called Messimiens .

Messimy-sur-Saône is located about 28 kilometers north-northwest of Lyon on the Saône . Messimy-sur-Saône is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Lurcy in the north and northeast, Chaleins in the east and southeast, Fareins in the south and Saint-Georges-de-Reneins in the west.
