traffic
Châtillon has been accessible by train since 1879. This year the meter-gauge , eleven-kilometer branch line to Marlieux was opened. The operator was the Compagnie du chemin de fer de Marlieux à Châtillon . In Marlieux there was a connection to the Lyon – Bourg-en-Bresse railway, which went into operation in 1866 . In 1898, a further 47 km long route with a second station was added in Châtillon, the so-called southeast station, which was maintained by the Régie départementale des tramways de l'Ain (RDTA). Due to increasing car traffic, the route soon became uneconomical and had to be closed in 1937. The Marlieux station has since been called Marlieux-Châtillon and is served by the TER Rhône-Alpes .
