Matthias Plachta (born May 16, 1991 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German ice hockey player who is under contract with the Adler Mannheim from the German ice hockey league . He is the son of longtime DEL player Jacek Płachta .
Career
The 1.88 m tall striker initially played for the Jungadler , the Adler Mannheim youth team , in the German Youth League . From 2008 Plachta finally received due to a production license also the first operations at the Mannheimer partners Heilbronner Falken in the 2. Bundesliga , with whom he could reach the play-off quarter-finals.
Born in Freiburg, he has had a professional contract with Adler Mannheim since 2009, but was still entitled to play for the Heilbronner Falken due to his sponsorship license. In the 2011/2012 season he won the runner-up with the Eagles. After the striker had become German champions with the team in the 2014/15 season , he moved to the Arizona Coyotes in the National Hockey League (NHL) in May 2015 , where he signed a one-year contract. Shortly before the start of the season, Plachta was sent to the Springfield Falcons farm team in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Was after almost half a year in the organization of the Coyotes in the Plachta exclusively in the AHL been used, the attacker was, together with a performance-related seventh round voting rights for the NHL Entry Draft in 2017 to the Pittsburgh Penguins given that in return Sergei Plotnikov after Arizona sent. Plachta completed a total of 46 AHL games for the Springfield Falcons and 30 for the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins in the 2015/16 season . He missed his goal of making the leap to the NHL.
Plachta decided to return to Germany and rejoined the Adler Mannheim at the end of June 2016 .
International
For the German U18 national team Matthias Plachta played the U18 Junior World Championship 2009 , in which he was the team's second best scorer with three goals and two assists behind his club colleague Marc El-Sayed , but could not prevent the DEB selection from being relegated. Since 2009 he has been a regular player in the German U20 team and took part in the U20 Junior World Championship of Division I in 2010 . He scored two goals and five assists in five games, making him the second best preparer behind his compatriot Alexander Jensen , together with the Dane Mark Mieritz , and thus helped the selection team to return directly to the top division, in which he played the following year .
In the 2010/11 season he wore the jersey of the German men's national team for the first time , for which he took part in the World Cup in 2014 , 2015 and 2017 . Plachta crowned his international career by winning the silver medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and was awarded the silver laurel leaf for this success with the entire German ice hockey team.
