Markus Eisenschmid (born January 22, 1995 in Marktoberdorf ) is a German ice hockey player who has been under contract with Adler Mannheim in the German Ice Hockey League since June 2018 and plays for them in the center position. His sisters Tanja and Nicola are also ice hockey players and belong to the women's national team.

Career

Markus Eisenschmid played for the youth teams of ESV Kaufbeuren from the start . In the 2011/12 and 2012/13 playing years, he played in the German Junior League (DNL). At the same time he was appointed to the youth teams of the national team for the first time. In the 2012/13 season Eisenschmid played his first games for the first team in what was then the 2nd Bundesliga . In April 2013 Eisenschmid was hired by the Hamburg Freezers , for whom he never appeared.

Before the 2013/14 season, the scouts from North America became aware of Eisenschmid. From the  Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League he  was selected in the  CHL Import Draft  in the first round in 28th place. Due to a clause in his contract, it was possible for him to switch to the Medicine Hat Tigers in the Western Hockey League for two seasons. After two successful seasons in the Canadian junior league, the striker was invited to the summer training camp by the Montréal Canadiens due to good performance . He was then offered an AHL contract with St. John's IceCaps , for which he was active from October 2015. In January 2017 the Canadiens gave him a two-year contract, after which he ran for their new farm team Rocket de Laval at the beginning of the 2017/18 season.

In June 2018, he signed a contract with Adler Mannheim from the German Ice Hockey League and thus returned to his home country. In his DEL rookie season 2018/19 , the attacker was able to convince, scored 20 goals in 50 games, prepared another 22 goals and finished the main round with the Eagles in first place in the table. At the end of the playoffs the German championship was won .

International

Since being nominated for the DEB U16 national team, Eisenschmid has regularly participated in tournaments and junior world championships for Germany. The striker made his debut for the senior national team at the end of April 2018 as part of the Euro Hockey Challenge 2018 and then took part in the 2018 World Cup in Denmark . The following year he also played at the 2019 World Cup in Slovakia .
