Career
Thomas Larkin was born in London to an American and an Italian. When he was three years old, the family moved to Varese . He began his career as a hockey player at the renowned Phillips Exeter Academy , for which he was active from 2007 to 2009. In the NHL Entry Draft 2009 he was selected in the fifth round in a total of 137th position by the Columbus Blue Jackets . From 2009 to 2013 the defender attended Colgate University , for whose ice hockey team he played in ECAC hockey . In 2012 he was elected to the third All-Star Team of ECAC Hockey. In March 2013 he made his professional debut for the Springfield Falcons in the American Hockey League , for which he scored a goal in his second AHL game. In total, he came to seven appearances in the American Hockey League during the 2012/13 season . In July 2013, the Italian-American signed a two-year entry - level contract with Columbus Blue Jackets. While he commuted between the AHL team of the Springfield Falcons and the Evansville IceMen from the ECHL in the 2013/14 season , he was only on the ice with the Falcons the following year. He did not come to missions in the NHL.
In August 2015, Larkin left North America and joined Medveščak Zagreb from the KHL. There he played until mid-February 2017 and then moved to the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) for the Adler Mannheim . In November 2017, he made negative headlines when he executed a hard check against Brynäs striker Daniel Paille in the Champions Hockey League match against Swedish representative Brynäs IF . Larkin was suspended for four CHL games as a result of this foul. In a statement in the newspaper Aftonbladet he was also accused of attempted murder by Brynäs sports director Stefan Bengtzen . The Adler leadership firmly rejected this allegation with reference to the possible criminal offense of defamation . The foul had no further legal or sports court consequences. Due to the injuries, Paille ended his career in August 2018 and dissolved the professional contract.
In the 2018/19 season Larkin won the German championship with Mannheim, he scored the winning goal for the Adler in the extension of the fifth final against Munich.
