Andrew Desjardins (born July 27, 1986 in Lively , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Adler Mannheim from the German Ice Hockey League since October 2017 and plays for them in the position of the center . Desjardins was previously active in the National Hockey League , where he played for the San Jose Sharks and Chicago Blackhawks , with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 2015 .

Career

Desjardins began his career in the 2003/04 season with Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the Ontario Hockey League . There he reached nine points scorer in 55 games in his rookie year . In the following three years the center was part of the greyhound team and played consistently. On 34 and 28 scorer points, he followed 42 in his last OHL year. Nevertheless, he went unnoticed by the scouts of the National Hockey League . He only received an invitation for a training camp for the Los Angeles Kings in 2005.

The striker moved to the professional field without drafting in the summer of 2007 when he was signed by the Laredo Bucks from the Central Hockey League . There he finished the season with 59 points and was the team's third-best scorer. He was also the third-best scorer among the rookies and was shortlisted for the Rookie of the Year award . His achievements had meanwhile drawn the attention of the Worcester Sharks from the American Hockey League to him. They signed him in the summer of 2008. After serving in the farm team , the Phoenix RoadRunners from the ECHL , Desjardins finally recommended himself for a place in the AHL squad. Ultimately, he completed 74 AHL games in the 2008/09 season , in which he scored 22 points. In the playoffs he had another six points in twelve matches. As a result, the Sharks extended the Canadian's contract for one year in July 2009.

In March 2015, the Sharks swapped him with Ben Smith of the Chicago Blackhawks , with whom he subsequently won the Stanley Cup . After the 2016/17 season , he did not receive another contract in Chicago, so he was looking for a new employer from July 2017. First he received a trial contract with the New York Rangers , but he could not recommend himself for a permanent contract. In October 2017 he was finally signed by Adler Mannheim from the German Ice Hockey League until the end of the 2017/18 season . With the team he reached the playoff semi-finals this season. His engagement was extended the following summer and in the 2018/19 season he became German champions with the Adler . He finished the playoffs with 14 points , including nine goals, as the best scorer and goalscorer.
