Joonas Lehtivuori (born July 19, 1988 in Pirkkala ) is a Finnish ice hockey player . He has been under contract with Adlers Mannheim from the German Ice Hockey League since April 2018 and plays the position of defender .
Career
Lehtivuori began his athletic career at Tampereen Ilves . He left his youth club on April 27, 2009 and switched to the organization of the NHL club Philadelphia Flyers . In the NHL squad, he could not prevail and was therefore only used in the farm team Adirondack Phantoms in the American Hockey League . There he became one of the strongest defenders on his team. In 66 games in the AHL he scored five goals and 23 points.
During his second AHL season, Lehtivuori was loaned to the Finnish club Kalevan Pallo in January 2011 . About half a year later, in August 2011, Lehtivuori then moved to MODO Hockey in the Swedish Elitserien after a week-long try-out . After 213 games in the top Swedish league, Lehtivouri returned home and joined the Finnish team Hämeenlinnan Pallokerho . After 142 games and one season as assistant captain , he moved to the DEL team Adler Mannheim on April 13, 2018 .
In the 2018/19 season , Lehtivuori won the German championship with Adler Mannheim and was named DEL defender of the year.
International
For his home country, Lehtivuori took part in the junior division of the U18 World Junior Championships in 2006 and the U20 Junior World Championships in 2007 and 2008 . At the U18 World Cup 2006 he won the silver medal with his team, at the U20 World Cup 2008 he was named one of the top three players in Finland.
In September 2008 Lehtivuori made his debut for the Finnish senior team , but was only used sporadically in the following years. Between 2017 and 2019 he completed several tournaments with the national team, but did not receive any nominations for world championships or Olympic games.
