Pirkkala [ ˈpirkːɑlɑ ] ( Swedish. Birkala ) is a municipality in Finland .
It is located 10 kilometers southwest of Tampere and belongs to the western Finnish landscape of Pirkanmaa . Pirkkala has 19,368 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018) and is 104.04 km², of which 22.67 km² is water. Pirkkala is currently the fastest growing municipality in Pirkanmaa.
The population speaks only Finnish .
The Tampere-Pirkkala , Finland's second largest airport, located in the southwest of the municipality. There are Ryanair connections from this airport to Frankfurt-Hahn and Bremen, among others . Other airlines that fly to the airport are Finnair and SAS Scandinavian Airlines .
In this area a made birch - mutation (the Pirkkala birch: whose leaf edges are badly scored Betula pendula Birkalensis : Finnish Pirkkalan Koivu ).
