Kalevan Pallo , or KalPa for short , is a Finnish ice hockey club that plays in the Liiga . The team plays its home games in Kuopion jäähalli in Kuopio .
history
KalPa was founded in 1929 in Sortavala, Karel, under the name Sortavalan Palloseura . After the Second World War, the association moved from the Russian-occupied Sortavala to Kuopio in eastern Finland.
In 1999 the professional team's gaming operations were outsourced to a joint stock company, KalPa Hockey Oy . In the meantime, the NHL players Kimmo Timonen and Sami Kapanen , who once played for KalPa, have taken over the club. Scott Hartnell also holds 5% of the shares in the company. Sami Kapanen is also the company's managing director and chairman, Kimmo Kapanen is a sports manager .
In December 2018 KalPa was the first Finnish club to win the Spengler Cup .
