2019

The Spengler Cup 2018 ( French Coupe Spengler 2018 ) was the 92nd edition of the competition of the same name and took place from December 26 to 31, 2018 in the Swiss climatic health resort of Davos . The local Vaillant Arena acted as the venue . A total of 65,714 spectators attended the eleven tournament games, which corresponds to an average of 5,974 per game.

The first victory was the Finnish team KalPa Kuopio , who won the tournament in the final game by beating defending champions Team Canada 2-1 in a penalty shootout . For KalPa, it was the first tournament victory and also the first of a Finnish team in the 95-year history of the traditional tournament. Since the introduction of the final on the final day in 1986 , no Finnish team had competed in it. The last win by a Scandinavian team had Färjestad BK at the Spengler Cup in 1994 won. By losing the final, the Canadian team missed their fourth tournament victory in a row and thus equalized their own record from 1995 to 1998.

The German Leonhard Pföderl from the Nürnberg Ice Tigers was the most successful player in the tournament with five points , including two goals.

mode

The six participating teams initially played in two preliminary round groups - named after the Davos ice hockey legends Richard Torriani and the Cattini brothers Ferdinand and Hans - three teams each in a single round in the " everyone against everyone " mode , so that each team initially played two games Placements based on points. The two group winners qualified directly for the semifinals, while the second and third placed in a knockout duel played off the other two semifinals. The two semi-final winners finally determined the tournament winner on the final day.
