1953

The Spengler Cup 1952 ( French Coupe Spengler 1952 ) was the 27th edition of the competition of the same name and took place from December 27th to 31st, 1952 in the Swiss climatic health resort of Davos . The ice rink there served as the venue .

It won for the first time the EV Füssen , who won the tournament in the final with a 5-4 win in extra time over the Zürcher SC . For Bayern it was the first tournament victory at the Spengler Cup and the first for a German team since 1928 , when the Berliner SC won their last of three titles. EV Füssen caught up three goals behind in the final minutes of the game and finally won with a goal from Georg Guggemos .

Last year's winner and host HC Davos did not reach the finals after two defeats as bottom group in the preliminary round. Last year's finalist Preussen Krefeld also had to be content with fourth place.

mode

The six participating teams initially played in two preliminary round groups of three teams each in a single round in the " everyone against everyone " mode , so that each team initially played two games and the placements based on points. The two group winners qualified directly for the final and determined the tournament winner, while the two group runners-up played the game for third place.
