The Spengler Cup 1986 ( French Coupe Spengler 1986 ) was the 60th edition of the competition of the same name and took place from December 26th to 31st, 1986 in the Swiss climatic health resort of Davos . The ice rink there served as the venue . For the first time, on December 31st, an additional final game between the first and second placed in the qualification was played to determine the tournament winner.
It was won by Team Canada , which defeated the qualifying winner Sokol Kiev 9: 6 in the first-ever final game . The team from the Ukrainian SSR had clearly won the preliminary round 7: 3. It was the second overall tournament success for the Canadian federation selection after the maiden win in 1984 . The Ukrainian Anatoly Stepanyschtschew was the most successful player in the tournament with ten points , including six goals.
mode
The five participating teams initially played in a single round in the " everyone against everyone " mode , so that each team played four games. The two teams with the best points after completing the ten qualifying games finally determined the tournament winner in an additional game.
