The Spengler Cup 1998 ( French Coupe Spengler 1998 ) was the 72nd edition of the competition of the same name and took place from December 26th to 31st, 1998 in the Swiss climatic health resort of Davos . The ice rink there served as the venue . A total of 78,060 spectators attended the eleven tournament games, which corresponds to an average of 7,096 per game.

It was won again by Team Canada , which won the tournament with a 5-2 victory in the final against the hosts HC Davos . In the qualification, the Confederates had clearly won the game with 5: 1. Team Canada won the title for the fourth time in a row and celebrated the eighth tournament success since 1984 .

The Swede Clas Eriksson was the most successful player in the tournament with six points , including four goals.

mode

The five participating teams initially played in a single round in the " everyone against everyone " mode , so that each team played four games. The two teams with the best points after completing the ten qualifying games finally determined the tournament winner in an additional game.
