Richard "Rick" Nasheim (born January 15, 1963 in Regina , Saskatchewan ) is a former Austrian - Canadian ice hockey player who has been working as an ice hockey coach since 2004. Most of his career he played in the Austrian ice hockey league for VEU Feldkirch .

Career

Nasheim began his career in Canada and played with Dan Hodgson , Dave O'Brien and Geoff Courtnall at the Cowichan Valley Capitals in a junior league in British Columbia . After a few years in the Western Hockey League , where he played with the Regina Pats in his birthplace in the early 1980s , he came to Europe in the summer of 1986. At EHC Klostersee he played in the 2nd Bundesliga .

After relegation, he moved to Austria for VEU Feldkirch . After seven successful years he moved to Vienna, but after just one season he returned to Feldkirch in 1995 and stayed there for another five years. There he was Austrian champion five times . On March 14, 1996, he managed the unique feat of scoring six goals in a single final game against the KAC . In 2000 he moved to EHC Black Wings Linz , where he was able to win the championship title again in the 2002/03 season . After three seasons in Linz he played another year for Feldkirch in the 2003/04 season and then announced his retirement.

Nasheim took on Austrian citizenship and also played for the Austrian national ice hockey team . In 2004 he took over the position of assistant coach at Black Wings Linz for the following seasons. In 2009/10 he achieved his greatest success as a trainer with the runner-up title, then ended his engagement with Black Wings Linz and became assistant trainer at ERC Ingolstadt . With the Germans he was an assistant coach until 2012/13, before replacing the previous head coach Rich Chernomaz in December 2012 . At the beginning of the 2013/14 season, Nasheim was replaced as head coach by the Swede Niklas Sundblad , who led the team to the championship that same season, and has since been considered to be without a club (as of November 26, 2014).

In the 2015/16 season, Nasheim was assistant coach at Vienna Capitals . Then the TV broadcaster Sky Austria hired him as an expert for his ice hockey broadcasts.

During the 2016/17 season he worked as a player observer for the Dornbirn EC before he was promoted to assistant coach for the following season.
