Daniel W. "Dan" Hodgson (born August 29, 1965 in Fort Vermillion , Alberta ) is a former Swiss - Canadian ice hockey player who played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League , EC Hedos Munich , from 1985 to 2004 played in the ice hockey Bundesliga and for various clubs in Switzerland.
Career
At the age of 15 he was on a team with Geoff Courtnall , Dave O'Brien and Rick Nasheim at the Cowichan Valley Capitals . As a junior he played for the Prince Albert Raiders in the Western Hockey League . After a strong season, chose him Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft in the fifth round than 83 out. This was followed by two outstanding years in the WHL, each with over 180 points. Especially in 1985, when he and his team won the Memorial Cup , he received numerous awards. He was the best player in the final round of the Memorial Cup, but also followed Mario Lemieux as CHL Player of the Year .
After a good start in the NHL in the 1985/86 season with 25 points in 40 games, he was sent to the AHL farm team to the St. Catharines Saints . The following year he was given to the Vancouver Canucks . Here, too, he did not make the breakthrough and played again and again in the AHL with the Fredericton Express and in the IHL for the Milwaukee Admirals .
In 1989 he decided to move to Europe. He played two games in Austria at EHC Lustenau , but spent most of the season in Switzerland at Friborg-Gottéron . For the 1990/91 season , the EC Hedos Munich brought him to Germany. Injuries hindered him in his first year, in the following season he was the best scorer in Munich, but could not meet the high expectations. Here he met with Ken Berry on a player with whom he had already played in Vancouver.
He moved to the Swiss National League B . From the 1994/95 season he played first class again at HC Davos . Thanks to his marriage to a Swiss woman, he had received Swiss citizenship and no longer burdened the quota of foreigners. After four years in Davos, he moved to the ZSC Lions for the 1998/99 season . In those years he was one of the top players in the Swiss league. After a year at the EHC Basel , he returned to Friborg-Gottéron in 2004 and ended his active career there in 2005.
