The EHC Klostersee is a southern Bavarian ice hockey club from Grafing near Munich , which is still one of the few playing in the club's own - not completely closed - stadium. The club was founded in 1957 and was active in the major league between 2002 and 2016 . The greatest successes of EHC Klostersee were promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga in 1985 , 1990 and 1994 . After the 2015/2016 season, the club stopped playing in the Oberliga due to the financial emergency and restarted in the district league. The following year he won the championship without a single defeat. The first team currently plays in the fourth-class Bayernliga .
history
The EHC Klostersee was founded on July 1st, 1957 in Grafing near Munich. The club began playing in the 1958/59 season in the district class, where they could reach the runner-up in the club's first year. In 1962 a new statute was drawn up at a membership meeting, with which the club became a registered association . In the 1963/64 season, the EHC Klostersee played for promotion, but lost in the decisive game against the Augsburg EV team . At that time, almost 6,000 spectators attended the game. One season later, the club was promoted to the regional league and ultimately achieved the athletic qualification for the major league, which, however, was not noticed due to the lack of a suitable playing area. In the following years, the EHC was able to win the championship of the Bavarian League twice .
After the construction of the ice rink in Grafing in 1970, the sporting goal was to move up to the top league. At the end of the 1972/73 season, the team was able to achieve promotion to the then third-highest German division. EHC Klostersee belonged to this league for twelve years before playing in the 2nd Bundesliga for the first time in the 1985/86 season . Two years later they were relegated to the league again. In the 1999/00 season , the EHC had to take part in the fourth-class Regionalliga Süd for the first time after a total of 26 years. It was only three seasons later that they were promoted to the league again. There you could qualify directly for the play-offs in the first season after promotion, where you finally failed in the quarter-finals with 1: 2 games at EV Weiden .
After the 2005/06 season , the existence of the club was so jeopardized due to the increased costs for the operation of the ice rink that the ice rink had to be stopped. This could be avoided through the increased subsidies for operating costs from the district of Ebersberg and the city of Grafing .
Shortly before the start of the 2013/2014 season, the ice processing system failed and the unplanned repair costs of almost EUR 80,000 brought the club into financial difficulties that threatened its existence. The city council then decided, with only one vote against, that the city of Grafing should assume half of the costs.
In the 2015/16 season, the EHC only finished 10th in the preliminary round and was eliminated in the first pre-playoffs (best-of-three) with 1: 2 against Deggendorfer SC. Due to the bad season's performance, as well as various fan riots, the average attendance dropped significantly. Because of the supra-regional, critical reporting, some sponsors ended their engagement. The resulting financial bottleneck for the first team's budget for the next league season amounted to around € 100,000 according to the club's management. In May 2016, the EHCK board of directors decided not to apply for a license for the 2016/17 season and instead voluntarily withdraw from the Oberliga Süd. The EHCK was then classified in the district league. In order to be promoted to the regional league, a large part of the former upper league squad is to be retained and the remaining positions to be filled by players from the U23 team, who are no longer involved in the U23 game operations. In addition to the men's team in the upper league, the club also participates in the junior division with teams in all age groups, including the age groups of youngsters, youngsters, boys, schoolchildren, youth and juniors. The youth and junior teams have been taking part in the Bundesliga since the 2012/13 season and both became German runners-up in the 2012/13 season. The juniors repeated this placement in the following season.
The EHC Klostersee also has a figure skating and short track department.
Venue
After natural ice rinks were prepared for games on the Klostersee , the Seeschneider Weiher or in the Stahuber gravel pit before 1970, the artificial ice stadium was put into operation in 1970 on a property made available to the club by the city of Grafing (through the heritable building right) the EHC Klostersee teams have been using it as their home ground since then. Those responsible received free building materials for the realization of the artificial ice stadium, such as light poles, which were not needed for the construction of the Olympic stadium in Munich . EHC Klostersee will play their first game in the new stadium against an ice hockey team from the Slovak capital, Bratislava . The stadium offers space for a total of 1,730 spectators, with 1,555 standing and 175 seats available.
In 1983 the stadium was roofed over so that it is still open on one side - but due to the roof construction - in contrast to other stadiums, it is lower. In order to finance the costs of the roofing, the fans of the EHC Klostersee were also involved. For example, when buying an admission ticket and an additional surcharge of one DM , one component was distributed to the respective fan. Over the years, the ice rink has only been modernized sporadically. Among other things, a new sound system (boxes) was installed by the Klostersee interest group .
In 2014, with financial support from the city and the district, the outdated lighting system was replaced by an LED lighting system that illuminates the ice surface more brightly and also reduces electricity consumption and thus ongoing operating costs. The sanitary facilities were also renovated, which were also upgraded with the installation of a decalcifying system. In October of the same year, the city of Grafing and the district of Ebersberg decided to subsidize the stadium for over 15 years for ongoing operating costs amounting to € 95,000 annually, half of which is to be borne by both sides.
In July 2015, based on the city council resolution of October 2014, the stadium's cooling system was replaced. An exchange was necessary because the ice making for the 2013/14 season had a defect in the refrigeration system. As a result, the preparatory phase for the new league season for the EHC Klostersee was impaired - due to the loss of income from ice rental as well as the rental costs of foreign ice rinks during the preparation period. The funds for the costs of the new refrigeration system (€ 571,000) were raised by the association, the city and the district, but also by EHC members themselves, who were able to make their contribution through a drawing project with cooperative shares of Regenerative Energie Ebersberg eG. The sum of € 100,000 subscribed was realized within a few days. The operating costs of the new refrigeration system should be halved compared to the old refrigeration system in terms of electricity costs and a third in terms of maintenance costs.
In addition to the EHC Klostersee teams, the ESC Planegg / Würmtal team and the ERSC Ottobrunn team have been playing their games of the women's ice hockey Bundesliga 2008/09 in the ice rink since 2008/09 . The stadium also hosts the games of the hobby Wuiden Hockey League (WHL) , which is made up of hobby teams from the districts of Ebersberg and Rosenheim.
