Kim Collins (born January 7, 1962 in Qualicum Beach , British Columbia ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current coach . Most recently he was the head coach of Deggendorfer SC from the DEL2 .

Career

As a player

Collins began his career at Bowling Green State University , where he for the local hockey team in the College Football Central Collegiate Hockey Association was active. During the 1980 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected by those in charge of the Los Angeles Kings in the tenth round in 199th place. Collins played at the university until 1983 before moving to the Atlantic Coast Hockey League for the Pinebridge Bucks . For the Bucks, he completed 58 league games and scored 67 points scorer . Furthermore, he wore the jersey of the Fort Wayne Komets seven times in the International Hockey League .

In the summer of 1984 he moved to Germany in what was then the third highest division, the 2nd division , to EA Kempten , for which he was active for one season. He then joined the EHC Klostersee in 1985 . There Collins was, with a one-year break in the 1991/92 season, nine years in the squad. During the 1995/96 season, the defender joined the Augsburg Panthers from the German Ice Hockey League, where he made his first ten DEL games and scored four times. In the summer of 1996 he ended his active ice hockey career at the age of 34.

As a trainer

After the end of his active career as a hockey player, Collins became involved as a coach. Between 1996 and 1998 he was in the league with Deggendorfer SC and between 1999 and 2002 in the DEL with Schwenninger Wild Wings . From 2007 to 2008 he looked after the Slovenian EBEL team HK Acroni Jesenice , but was released early there. In 2008, after a two-month interlude at SC Riessersee , he returned to Schwenningen and worked there again as head coach. After this 2008/09 season , Collins moved to Austria and the Black Wings Linz . A year later, Collins led the Black Wings Linz to the runner-up title. However, in the 2010/11 season it was eliminated in the playoff quarter-finals and Collins was dismissed. After Norbert Weber's dismissal, he has been temporarily training Deggendorf Fire since December 28, 2011 . For the 2012/13 season he returned to Switzerland to the NLB for HC Sierre . Collins has been training the EHC Visp team in the NLB since the 2013/14 season , with whom he immediately celebrated winning the championship in his first season. At the beginning of December 2015, Collins was released from work at EHC Visp and replaced by Gil Montandon as head coach.

A few weeks after his release in Visp, he took over the position of head coach at HC Pustertal in South Tyrol and led the team to the 2017 playoff final of Serie A, where the HCP Ritten Sport lost.

On June 20, 2017, the DEL2 team of the Eispiraten Crimmitschau announced their commitment as head coach and sporting director in personal union. After a series of defeats, he was released in January 2019 and took over the DEL2 team at Deggendorfer SC a few days later .
