Qualicum Beach is a Canadian city in the province of British Columbia . It is located on the east coast of the Pacific island of Vancouver Island and belongs to the regional district of Nanaimo . 8,687 inhabitants live on an area of 17.98 km².

history

The area around Qualicum Beach was not settled until the second half of the 19th century. The Hudson's Bay Company founded Victoria in 1852 on the south of Vancouver Island and a little later Nanaimo . In search of new fishing opportunities for animals for the fur trade, attempts were made to reach the west coast of Vancouver Island. The area around what is now Qualicum Beach was a good starting point. This route is still used today with the Alberni Highway and follows the Qualicum River .

A first road was built into the western settlement of Parksville in 1886 and extended to Qualicum Beach in 1894. The same thing happened with the railroad, which arrived in Parksville in 1910 and Qualicum Beach in 1914.

Due to the population growth of the settlement, the village of Qualicum Beach was formally established in 1942, and the town received city rights in 1983.

Geography and climate

Qualicum Beach is located on Vancouver Island, an island off the Pacific coast of Canada. The city is located on the east coast of the island and is therefore influenced by the oceanic climate. This means mild temperatures in all seasons.
