The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is a district in the Canadian province of British Columbia . It is located on the east coast of Vancouver Island , is 2,038.04 km² and has a population of 155,698 (2016). In the 2011 census, only 146,574 inhabitants were determined. The main town is Nanaimo .
