The Regional District of East Kootenay is a district in the Canadian province of British Columbia . It is located in the extreme southeast of the province, is 27,541.84 km² and has a population of 60,439 (2016). In the 2011 census, 56,685 inhabitants were determined. The main town is Cranbrook .
Unlike most of British Columbia, the Regional District of East Kootenay is not Pacific Standard Time , but Mountain Standard Time .
