The Strathcona Regional District is located in British Columbia , Canada . The district lies partly on Vancouver Island and on the opposite mainland. 44,671 people live in the district on 18,278.06 km² (2016). In the 2011 census, 43,252 inhabitants were determined for the district. The main town is Campbell River .
history
The regional district was formed on February 15, 2008 from parts of the dissolved Regional District Comox-Strathcona . 91.6% of the area, but only 42.1% of the inhabitants, came to this regional district.
