The ESV Buchloe is an ice sports and ice hockey club from Buchloe in the Swabian district of Ostallgäu , which consists of the three departments of figure skating, curling and ice hockey. An important part of the club is the Buchloe Pirates ice hockey team, which plays in the Bavarian State League

history

Beginnings (1961–1976)

The foundation of the ESV goes back to a meeting of ice sports fans in Buchloe on November 9, 1961. The decision was made against joining an existing club and the new Buchloe Ice Sports Club (ESVB) was founded from the 18 present , with Siegmar Hartrampf and Adolf Mehl, respectively, elected as first and second chairmen. On January 1, 1962, the first friendly game of the young ESV took place on the Breiten Postweiher , which was chosen as a venue when it was founded . At the first annual general meeting at the end of September 1962, however, this space was no longer found to be sufficient and a 7300 m² site on Eschenlohstraße was leased, whereupon a solid, 60-meter-long and 30-meter-wide play area was created over the next few months through volunteer work. In the summer of next year, the facility was further converted into a natural ice rink, which was officially opened on December 22nd and made it possible to join the ice hockey team. This succeeded in 1966 with promotion to the Bavarian State League . At that time the association already had more than 230 members. In order to offer a wide range of sporting opportunities, the departments of figure skating, curling and tennis were founded as early as 1964. The latter received two places, which were inaugurated in June 1964, and in 1967 became independent as TC Buchloe.

1976 until today

After the fear of excessively high costs for the repair of the existing natural ice stadium in Eschenlohstraße had already brought about the construction of a new artificial ice stadium in 1973, the same was decided in 1976 by the Buchloes city council. The groundbreaking of the DM 1.7 million project was on August 13, 1977. Thanks to its completion by mid-December of the same year, an opening game was held on January 6, 1978. The stadium was expanded in 1988 and covered in 2004. In the 2007/2008 season, ESV Buchloe celebrated its greatest success in the club's recent history with the Bavarian State League Championship. After 176 games in six seasons, he is eleventh on the all-time Bayern League table .
