The best placed Bayern league team in the interlocking round of the Oberliga Süd is the Bavarian champion of the Bayernliga. The seven other teams in the Bayernliga play a lower intermediate round. In the pre-playoffs, the two best teams in the lower intermediate round will meet places 7 and 8 in the upper intermediate round. The winners take part in the playoff games of the Bayernliga and then play with the first six teams from the upper intermediate round for promotion to the upper league. The playoff finalists are qualified for the Oberliga Süd 2020/2021. The last two teams of the lower round (relegation round) determine in the playdowns (best of 5) the relegated to the national league. Source: Icehockeypage Current table: bev-eissport.de

Natural ice Bavarian League
In 1968 the Bayern League was introduced. At times there was a natural ice and an artificial ice Bavarian league. Up until 1975 an ascent from both leagues in the DEB area was possible. After that only from the artificial ice Bavarian League. In the 1980s, the BEV again organized a natural ice Bavarian league for clubs that only had a natural ice stadium . In the regular Bayernliga, known as the artificial ice-Bayernliga , an artificial ice stadium was compulsory. A promotion from the Natural Ice Bayern League to the DEB leagues was no longer possible. In 1987 the natural ice Bavarian League was stopped. At times there was also a natural ice regional league as a substructure for the Bavarian League.

2019/20 | The 14 teams play a main round (single round) with 26 games per team. After the main round there are two intermediate rounds. The best six teams of the main round as well as the penultimate (ERC Sonthofen) and last (Höchstadter EC) of the Oberliga Süd take part in the upper intermediate round (interlocking round). The best placed Bayern league team in the interlocking round of the Oberliga Süd is the Bavarian champion of the Bayernliga. The eight other teams in the Bayernliga play a lower intermediate round (relegation round).
From 2017/18 | The 14 teams play a main round (single round) and determine the champions of the Bayernliga 2017/18. The best eight teams qualify for a dovetailing round with the teams from 9th to 12th place in the Oberliga Süd (EV Lindau, ECDC Memmingen, EHC Waldkraiburg, TEV Miesbach). This is played in two groups (A and B) of six teams each (10 game days), whereby the first four qualify for the play-offs. The play-offs will be played in the quarter-finals with Best of Seven and from the semi-finals with Best of Three. The best 4 teams (semi-finalists) are qualified for the Oberliga 2018/19. The final winner is the BEV playoff champion.
The teams in ranks 9 to 14 of the Bayernliga main round are dovetailed with the best 10 teams in the Bavarian State League and play a qualifying round (single round) in two groups (C and D). The teams in places 1 to 3 of each group are qualified for the Bayernliga 2018/19. |
2016/17 | The 14 teams play a round trip (26 match days). The best eight teams qualify for the relegation with the last four of the Oberliga Süd (Höchstadter EC, EV Lindau, EHC Waldkraiburg, EHV Schönheide 09). This is played in two groups of six teams (10 match days), with the first four qualifying for the play-offs. The best 4 teams (semi-finalists) are qualified for the Oberliga 2017/18. The final winner is the BEV playoff champion. The teams in places 9 to 14 of the main round play a relegation round. The penultimate of this round plays with the runner-up of the Bavarian State League for the remaining starting place (best-of-three). The last placed is relegated to the Bavarian State League.
2015/16 | For the 2015/16 season, after the planned target strength of 14 teams had been reached, the mode was adjusted again in contrast to the 2014/15 season:
In the 2015/16 season, a five-minute extra time with a maximum of 4 field players in accordance with Article 26 DEB Game Rules was introduced as a new rule in the event of a draw after regular time - as is already common in the upper divisions. If a game is still tied after extra time, the penalty shootout follows. Teams that played their games in an open-air stadium had to designate an alternate stadium by the end of June 2015 so that the game could be played from October 2015. |
2014/15 | A reduction from 16 to 14 teams was planned for the 2014/15 season. Since the planned number of 14 teams was not reached, the league was only played with 13 teams. In contrast to the 2013/14 season, the mode was adjusted again for the 2014/15 season:
2013/14 | In contrast to the 2012/13 season, the 2013/14 season was again carried out with 16 teams.
2012/13 | In the 2012/13 season, the Bayern League started with 15 instead of 16 teams. After the team withdrew from ESV Königsbrunn in December 2012, 14 teams played the round to an end.
2011/12 | For the 2011/12 season, the relegation playoffs were switched from "Best of Three" to "Best of Five".
2010/11 | For the 2010/11 season, the previously valid 2-man referee system for playing games was replaced by the 3-man referee system.
From 2008/09 | For the 2008/09 season, the two-point system was replaced by the three-point system .
From 2003/04 | Since 2003/04, the Bayernliga has started on a single track with 16 teams. Previously, the league was divided into a group east and a group west with eight teams each for two years. Contrary to public perception, however, the Bayern League was not enlarged in the long term, but rather reduced. Although there was a league with only 14 teams in 1999/2000, in the early to mid-1990s, however, up to 21 teams, divided into two groups, took part in the Bayernliga. The modes alternated again and again depending on the size of the league. The mode has remained largely the same since 2003. From 2003/04 to 2007/08, the first eight teams played after the main round play-offs in best-of-three mode . As described, an additional elimination round has been interposed since 2008/09.
With regard to promotion and relegation, there were always changes, especially in the number of promoted and relegated teams, mainly due to strong structural fluctuations in higher-class leagues. So it came about that in the seasons 2007/08 and 2008/09 all teams eligible for promotion refused promotion to the league . Partly because of its own structures - for example because gaming in the professional area didn't seem feasible - but also because of the opaque structures and fluctuations in the professional area organized by the ESBG . The different league strengths and replacement regulations also meant that between 2004/05 ( Höchstadter EC ) and 2008/09 ( TEV Miesbach ) there was no relegation from the Oberliga to the Bayernliga. |
2002/03 | The 16 participants played in two seasons (west and east) of eight teams each. The four best teams in each season qualify for the joint intermediate round. In the playoffs following the intermediate round, the champions are played out and are promoted to the top division. The remaining teams play in a relegation round. The last two of the relegation round were relegated directly to the Bavarian State League.
