In the 2014/15 season, the Regionalliga is the fourth highest league level in German ice hockey below the top ice hockey league . The regional leagues north, west, east and south-west are played as well as the Bavarian ice hockey league .

Regionalliga North

The Regionalliga Nord is organized by the Lower Saxony State Ice Sports Association for teams from the federal states of Lower Saxony , Hamburg , Bremen , Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

A single round will be played from September 2014 up to and including February 28, 2015. The first eight teams reach the playoffs. In the first two rounds, the winner will have been played on a return leg, in the final "best-of-three". The master receives the right to promotion to the Oberliga Nord. The relegated will be determined in the "best-of-three" mode, between the last and the penultimate after the main round. The loser is relegated to the national league.

After a double round with four games against each team, the two finalists are played in the "best-of-three" mode - the final in the "best-of-five". The winner of the final is 'Meister Regionalliga West'. The losers of the semi-finals play the third place in the "best-of-five" mode. All participants renounced a possible promotion to the ice hockey league 2015/16 .

In the playdowns, the eighth placed against the fifth placed and the seventh placed against the sixth placed play first and foremost. The winners of these pairings achieve relegation, while the losing teams then have to play against each other again. The winner also achieves relegation, while the loser has to play in relegation games against the champions of the Rhineland-Palatinate League, again in home and return matches. The champions of the NRW League and the Hessen League have direct promotion rights.

Playdowns

The losers of the elimination round played the play-downs with the remaining main round ninth and tenth. As in previous years, the league plays a single round. All thirteen teams qualify for the subsequent intermediate round, which then play off the participants in the playoffs in three groups. The first five teams, after the preliminary round is over, are already qualified for the playoffs and play their starting positions in the intermediate round A. The following teams play the remaining three playoff places in two intermediate round groups (B and C). The two intermediate group winners are qualified for the playoffs, the two runners-up play the last quarter-finalists for the playoffs in the "best-of-three" mode. The planned promotion games between the champions of the Regionalliga Süd-West and the Bayernliga will not take place because EV Lindau decided not to take part in the games and EHC Eisbären Heilbronn could not meet the admission requirements for the Oberliga Süd 2015/16 .
