The ice hockey regional league 1989/90 was played in five groups - South , South-West , Middle , West and North .

mode

In the south group with 11 teams, the south-west group with 10 teams, the middle group with 7 teams and the north group with 6 teams, only one preliminary round was played as a single round, while in the west group with 8 teams the preliminary round as a double round was played out. After the preliminary rounds, the first six from the south group and the first two from the south-west group took part in the qualification for the Oberliga Süd 1990/91 , while the first two from the north group and the west group and the middle group took place 1 and 4 participated in the qualification for the Oberliga Nord 1990/91 . The other teams play in their groups in the qualifying rounds.

Promotion from the regional associations

In the Regionalliga Süd and Süd-West

• The team from Neckarsulm and EHC Schwenningen from Baden-Württemberg took part in the qualifying round for the Regionalliga Süd-West.
• Places 1 to 7 from the Bayernliga took part in the qualification for the Regionalliga Süd.

In the Regionalliga North and West

• From the NRW League, the Herner EV , ESF Iserlohn and ESC Soest took part in the qualifying round for the Regionalliga West.
• The second team from REV Bremerhaven, EHC Hamburg and EC Hanover, PSV Berlin and TuS Harsefeld took part in the qualifying round for the Regionalliga Nord .

Regional league south

The teams in place 1 to 6 after the preliminary round, which were played as a single round, then take part in the qualification for the Oberliga Süd . The other teams play in the qualifying round for relegation.
