Kehrdichannasst Castle or Kehr-dich-an-nothing is a former hunting lodge in the Palatinate Forest west of Bad Dürkheim ( Rhineland-Palatinate ). It belonged to the lineage of Counts in Leiningen .

history

The hunting lodge on a postcard from around 1900

In 1588, a game reserve was mentioned for the forest area near Bad Dürkheim. At the same time as the hunting lodge there was probably an older, simpler building that served the nobility as a base during the hunt and probably did not survive the War of the Palatinate Succession .

For the plateau on which the hunting lodge stands today, the name Kehrdichann nothing was first mentioned in 1651 and was later adopted for the castle .

In 1707 Count Johann Friedrich von Leiningen had a new wooden hunting lodge built. It was a reaction to the hunting ground of the Electoral Palatinate in the immediate vicinity ; one wanted to observe the district neighbors and clearly define the boundaries.

In 1717 the construction of a hunting lodge began. Count Johann Friedrich died in February 1722 and did not see the completion. His son Count Friedrich Magnus had the complex completed in 1722. Its relief still adorns a stone wall there. Kehrdichannasst Castle was the Count's residence during the hunt until his death in 1756. His successor, Prince Carl Friedrich Wilhelm , became the next owner. After the French Revolution spread to the Palatinate, the hunting lodge appears to have burned down in 1793.

The once two-story building was built in 1816 under Bavarian rule by the then building manager Johann Bernhard Spatz and served as a forester's house until 1891 . Then it was supposed to be torn down, but this was prevented by a private initiative. Instead, it was sold to the winery owner, Kommerzienrat Fritz Eckel from Deidesheim . Although the state bought the house back in 1917, it was again leased to Eckel's nephew.

Kehrdichann nothing has been a forester's house again since 1927; Until the end of the 20th century, a restaurant was operated in the building. It is in a condition that has only changed slightly compared to 1816.

Origin of name

According to a legend, the name came about as follows: During the hunt, a servant is said to have come to the count to warn him about the French troops roaming the area. The count is said to have dismissed the warning with the words: "Don't worry about anything!"

Based on the historical Palatinate hunting lodges Kehrdichannicht, Schaudichnichtum and Murrmirnichtviel , the Palatinate NS Gauleiter Josef Bürckel named his hunting lodge Lassmichinruh, which was built near Ramsen around 1935 .

Attractions

At the castle is the leaf fountain , which was once provided with water features from the 18th century. Two sculptures of lions guard the entrance to the castle. There are also other sculptures preserved. The former hunting lodges Murrmirnichtviel and Schaudichnichtum are within a few kilometers .
