Weilach farm ruins

The Weilach farm ruins, also popularly known as Das Alte Haus , are the ruins of a farm in the Palatinate Forest  - near Bad Dürkheim in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Bad Dürkheim ( Germany ).

Geographical location

The Weilach farm ruins are located in the Middle Palatinate Forest  - in the Palatinate Forest-Vosges du Nord biosphere reserve and in the Palatinate Forest Nature Park . It is located 3 km northwest of the core town of Bad Dürkheim and 3.2 km west of the Bad Dürkheim district of Ungstein - between the Peterskopf ( 493.5  m ) in the northwest and the Teufelsstein (approx.  285  m ) in the southeast - in the Weilach valley 320  m . To the east below the ruins are the house on the Weilach and - near the Lochacker settlement belonging to the Bad Dürkheim district of Leistadt  - the forest restaurant Forsthaus Weilach .

history

The farm was first mentioned in a document in 1381 as Weilacher Hof owned by the Counts of Leiningen . The names Hof zu Widenlach , Hof zu Weidelach , Weydelach , Hof Weylach or Hof Weilach can also be found in other documents . Since the farm was built in an area with damp pools and many willow trees, it was given this name. It was initially managed by administrators for the counts and later leased. In 1490 a court man was mentioned for the first time, Peter Klein. He was followed by around 10 tenants up to the last 1785, Johannes Becker.

A well was built in the middle of the courtyard. There was a shepherd's house opposite the house. The farm was attacked by a band of robbers and burned down in 1790. Since then it has been in ruins. The daughter of the farm man had hidden in a dog house and recognized the blacksmith in the neighboring village of Leistadt , so that this crime could be solved afterwards.

In the 20th century, the Palatinate Forest Association erected a memorial stone on the ruins.

leisure

The Weilach farm ruins are  often well visited because of the nearby Forsthaus Weilach forest restaurant on Kreisstraße 3. For jogging and walking enthusiasts, four running routes of different lengths (5 to 25 km) have been signposted by the Bad Dürkheim running club, which can be reached from the parking lot on the Weilach and, for example, also lead past the Teufelsstein . The Ritterstein  281 Leiningische Hofruine Weilach is located near the court ruins .
