The Kurhaus is a classicist building in the district town of Bad Dürkheim .

history

It was built from 1822–1826 according to plans by Johann Bernhard Spatz (1782–1840) on the site of a baroque palace of the princes of Leiningen that burned down in 1794 , as a town hall and school building, in the classical style. The architect and district building inspector also designed the neighboring St. Ludwig's Church .

The building has served as a spa house since 1936. Today, in addition to the gastronomy (restaurant of the Kurpark Hotel) and lounges, it also houses the Bad Dürkheimer casino . It is a branch of the Bad Neuenahr casino .

On June 7, 1829, King Ludwig I of Bavaria and his wife Queen Therese visited the city, where they were received by District President Joseph von Stichaner together with General Karl August von Beckers zu Westerstetten in front of today's Kurhaus. When entering the building, the entrance stairs were sprinkled with flowers. The royal couple dined here in the house and greeted the citizens from the balcony above the main entrance.

Building stock

It is an elongated, two-storey building in the so-called "Weinbrennerstil" , with a triangular gable facing the front and facing today's spa gardens . On the south wall there is an inscription to commemorate the building and the previous castle.
