Ungstein is a district of Bad Dürkheim in the Bad Dürkheim district in Rhineland-Palatinate . Ungstein has about 1250 inhabitants and is located about 1 km northeast of Bad Dürkheim on the German Wine Route .
history
Ungstein was an independent municipality until it was incorporated into Bad Dürkheim on April 22, 1972 and is still strongly influenced by viticulture.
The first written mention of Ungstein in the Weißenburg Codex dates from 714, but there are already signs of settlement in Roman times.
The hamlet of Pfeffingen became part of Ungstein in 1836.
During a land consolidation in 1981, the remains of the villa rustica Weilberg were discovered. The former Roman estate, used according to the excavation results from the years 20/30 until the early 5th century, has been partially reconstructed and is accessible as an open-air museum .
Already for the 1266 wine-growing and wine-making is demonstrated in Ungstein because Dean and pen chapter of St. German (Speyer) , by an instrument "Wingerte to Unkstein and Durkheim" in perpetual lease granted under the condition that the tenant the local canons Stephan who had donated the property to the monastery, was supposed to "deliver 3 loads of wine a year from the press in Unkstein for life " .

Mayor
The mayor is Andreas Wolf (CDU). In the local elections on May 26, 2019, he was elected with a share of 66.05% of the votes, making him the successor to his father Walter Wolf (CDU), who was no longer running.

Culture
In Ungstein there are, among other things, a choir, a traditional costume group and a sports club. In addition, the place is the seat of the International Natural Horn Academy , which is directed by Wilhelm Bruns .

The route of the federal road 271 leads north of Bad Dürkheim through the villages and thus also through Ungstein. A bypass road is included in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030 as an urgent requirement .
