The EV Lindau is a Hockey -Verein from Lindau (Bodensee) . It was founded on December 13, 1976 and plays its home games in the Eichwaldstadion, an open-air stadium directly on Lake Constance . After the club initially took part in the game operations in the leagues organized by the Baden-Württemberg Ice Sports Association , the club switched to the leagues of the Bavarian Ice Sports Association in 1991 . The first men's team has been playing in the Bavarian Ice Hockey League since the 2010/11 season . In the offspring, youth, school and small school teams are registered in the game.

Since 1996, the association has been nicknamed Islanders with reference to the island town of Lindau. The club's home games are played in the Lindau ice rink directly on Lake Constance (capacity: 1250 seats).

history

Ice hockey was played in Lindau from 1948. The venue was initially a lake in front of the Landtorbrücke, before the athletes were allowed to play on the icy tennis courts on the Aeschacher Ufer. This was gradually converted into a stadium and in October 1976 the "Ice Stadium in the Eichwald" was opened. Despite numerous negative votes, the sponsors of ice sports and the city of Lindau agreed to found an association. In a meeting on October 13, 1976 in the Aeschacher Hof, the foundation stone for a new association was laid. The founding meeting took place on December 13, 1976 in the Aeschacher Hof and the new club was to be called the Lindau Ice Skating Club . The first official ice hockey game on November 26, 1977 was played by the traditional EV Lindau team in front of 600 spectators against the EV Füssen women's team with the final score of 13: 4.

In the 1979/80 season there was a first team again after 25 years, combined with players from Lindenberg . It was played in the Bavarian State League under coach Günther Peters. At the end of the season, EV Lindau took second place behind ESV Buchloe .

In 1985/86, after a two-year break, there was again a first team that became champions in the Baden-Württemberg regional league, although promotion to the Baden-Württemberg league was not possible until the following year. The first team was in the 1988/89 season under the Austrian coach Harry König master in the Baden-Württemberg League and rose to the Regionalliga Süd-West.

In the 1990/91 season, the EV Lindau qualified for the promotion games to the league. The coach this year was the Austrian Wolfgang Urban. Jan Szeja, a Polish national player, played for Lindau and was the top scorer in the Regionalliga Süd-West. After moving to the Bavarian Ice Sports Association in 1991, they first played in the Bavarian State League. In the following year, he was promoted to the Bayern League. However, the class could not be held.

In the years 1993-1995 the EV Lindau played in the Bavarian regional league. Under the former Canadian NHL player Bob Sullivan as player-coach, they managed to return to the Bayern League in 1997. In 1998 EV Lindau was the top scorer in the league with Canadian Jamie Hartnett.

From 2003 the "Islanders" played again in the Bavarian State League and were able to achieve the championship of the State League West in the 2008/09 season . In the promotion round, however, the group win and thus also the promotion place in the Bayern League, in a direct duel, on the last match day was given to fellow competitor EV Regensburg . Curiously, there was the same situation a year later. On the last day of the promotion round 2009/10, the team awarded the direct promotion in a duel against the direct competitor 1. EV Weiden . Due to the victory in the playoff for third place in the regional league championship against ESV Königsbrunn , the club had the right to move up to the Bavarian League thanks to the position that had become free thanks to the rise of VER Selbs .

In the 2014/15 season, the EV Lindau managed to win the Bavarian Ice Hockey Championship. In the final game, the Lindau team defeated the Höchstadter EC 4: 3. In the following season, the EVL managed to rise to the ice hockey league , in which place 10 was reached. In the subsequent interlocking round, the Islanders qualified to remain in the Oberliga Süd, in which they will also compete in the 2017/18 season.
