The Tilburg Trappers are a Dutch ice hockey club from Tilburg , which was founded in 1938 as the Tilburgsche IJs Sport Club . The Trappers are one of the most successful ice hockey clubs in the Netherlands. The club colors are yellow and blue. As usual in Dutch ice hockey, the Trappers came up with the name of the main sponsor. This was DESTIL , which is why the DESTIL Trappers lettering could be seen on the jerseys .

history

The Trappers belonged to the Ehrendivision , the highest Dutch league, from the time it was founded. The club's second team played for a long time in the Eerste Divisie , the country's second-highest division.

The Tilburg Trappers were particularly successful in the 1970s. In total, they have been Dutch champions 15 times (1947, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1994, 1995, 1996, 2001, 2007, 2008, 2014, 2015) and also 15 times cup winners (1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2001, 2006, 2008, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015). The team secured the championship title between 1971 and 1976.

The Trappers have been taking part in the German Oberliga Nord since the 2015/16 season . There the Trappers took second place behind the Füchsen Duisburg in their first season . With play-off victories against the Hannover Scorpions , the EV Landshut and the EC Peiting , they reached the final of the Oberliga championship, which was won by a 3-0 final series against EHC Bayreuth . The Trappers are the first foreign team to win a national German ice hockey title; however, they were denied ascent.

The Trappers finished the 2016/17 season in fourth place, behind the Herner EV , the Füchsen Duisburg and the Mosquitos Essen . In the play-offs the Tilburg team defeated the Crocodiles Hamburg , the VER Selb and the Mosquitos Essen with 3-1 each. The Trappers also won 3-1 in the final against EC Bad Tölz (champions of the Oberliga Süd); like a year earlier, however, they were not allowed to advance.

The club's second team has been taking part in the Belgian-Dutch BeNe League since 2015 . Two other teams from the club play in the Dutch Eerste divisie .
