The place is structurally closely linked to Stockholm and is therefore counted as part of the crime scene Stockholm .

history

The original nacka

The name Nacka comes from the ridge of the neck (the neck) south of Lake Järlasjön , Järlasjön used to be part of an important east-west waterway. In the middle of the 16th century Gustav Vasa had a hammer forge set up on the nearby brook Nacka Ström , and later a brass mill and mills for paper and grain were also set up. In the 1640s a chapel was built and Nacka became an independent (church) community. Around 1900 the factories were closed and in 1902 the chapel was demolished.

Nacka on Sicklaön

In 1887 the municipality of Nacka was merged with the area Sicklaön , north of Järlasjön. Nacka's current church was built on Sicklaön and consecrated in 1891. Sicklaön was characterized by rural areas for a long time, but after several industrial companies moved to the outskirts of Stockholm in the 1870s, numerous workers' apartments were built here. This development continued with the opening of Saltsjöbanan in 1893, but numerous villas were also built . At the same time, two large mills were opened on the bay leading to Stockholm. In 1949 Nacka received city rights , making it one of the last settlements before the administrative reorganization of the country to receive this privilege. In recent times, industrial production has declined and there is a reorientation towards the service sector. In addition, many residents commute to Stockholm every day.

Townscape

For a long time, Nacka was shaped by the mixture of villa and industrial areas that emerged in the late 19th century. In the middle of the 20th century, several multi-family housing estates were built, which gave the community a more urban character. In 1989 a large shopping center (Nacka Forum) opened, which today functions as an unofficial community center.
