Striker Lennart Skoglund was one of the great stars of European football in the 1950s. Between 1944 and 1949 he played for Hammarby IF and had his first major international appearance after joining AIK Solna at the 1950 World Cup in Brazil . After this World Cup he moved to the Italian Serie A and became a professional footballer at Inter Milan . In 1953 and 1954 he was Italian champion with Inter. In total, he played 240 games for Inter and scored 57 goals.

After Sweden failed to qualify for the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland , Skoglund celebrated his greatest success in the national team at the 1958 World Cup in his own country : he became vice world champion. His only goal at this World Cup he scored in the semifinals in a 3-1 win over defending champions Germany .

After 13 years in the Italian professional league, where he played for Sampdoria Genoa and US Palermo after his time at Inter , he returned to Hammarby IF, where he ended his great career in 1967.

His grave is in Skogskyrkogården cemetery .
