Stockholms län is a province ( Swedish län ) in Sweden . It borders the provinces of Uppsala län and Södermanlands län and is bordered by Lake Mälaren and the Baltic Sea .
It includes the capital Stockholm and the surrounding metropolitan area. Nowadays the province is synonymous with the metropolitan area Greater Stockholm (Swedish Storstockholm ).

The coat of arms of the Län is a combination of the coats of arms of Stockholm , Uppland and Södermanland . It was officially introduced in 1968 when the City of Stockholm was incorporated into Stockholm County.
