Gävleborg County

Gävleborgs län is a province ( län ) in Sweden .

Gävleborgs län is located in the south-east of Norrland and includes the entire historical province of Gästrikland and most of Hälsingland (except for an area around Ytterhogdal , now Jämtlands län ). A part of historical Dalarna around Tandsjöborg also belongs to Gävleborg County . The Län was founded in 1762 when it was split off from Västernorrlands Län . At that time it also included Härjedalen , which became Jämtlands län in 1810.

geography

The territory of Gävleborgs län makes up 4.4% of the area of the Swedish national territory.

prehistory

The long horse at Svartvik north of Söderhamn is about 40.0 meters long
Röse on the Rogsta burial ground

The parish of Rogsta has many preserved remains from the Bronze Age , including a third of all long roars in Sweden. All were built on the former coast and are now around 25.0 meters above sea level due to the land elevation . There are 478 roosts in Gävleborgs County, 32 of which are lengthways. They are between Söderhamn and Sundsvall . 50% of the larger ones from Gävleborgs län appear in pairs. The largest is about 45.0 meters long and 12.0 meters wide. The smallest is about 5.0 meters long. 75% are oriented northeast-southwest. Långrösen have not been investigated, but they probably date (like the round specimens) from the Bronze Age . In Långrösen there are often one or more pits and sometimes stone boxes . The largest part has a border made of dry stone . In some cases there are building blocks on one of the short sides.

The ship settlements are less numerous. Of the seven listed, some are ship-shaped ( Swedish skeppsformiga stensättningarna ) roes , as they are particularly common on the Orraryd burial ground in Småland . With a length of 7 to 14 meters and a width of 2.5 to 5.0 meters, they are within the lower spectrum of Swedish ship settlements. South of Högarna, in the municipality of Hundiksvall, there are two major ship settlements. You have the RAÄ no. Rogsta 31: 1 and 35: 1. One is on the Högarna burial ground, the second on the Reshögarna burial ground. The oldest ship settlements in Scandinavia are mostly located near hills or roos. During the younger Bronze Age, they move further away and become monuments in their own right.

In addition to the ship on the Högarnal cemetery, eight larger stone loops, two more long loops and a few smaller building stones. The ship is about 14.0 meters long and 4.0 meters wide. It is southwest of the largest rose. In this frequent constellation, the ships are often south of the Röse.

The second ship is on the Reshögarna burial ground. It is also about 14.0 meters long and 5.0 meters wide. What is interesting is that it has building blocks at the ends and in the middle. Building stones at the ends, so-called stern stones, are common with this type of monument. Central stones, on the other hand, are rare and were found mainly on Gotland and the Baltic States .

population

The share of the total population of Sweden is 3%.
